DANUBE BOAT TRIP THROUGH HISTORY
Izlet Dunavom kroz istoriju

11.-12. September 2020

Under extraordinary circumstances caused by the corona virus pandemic, we managed to organize this fantastic trip for all employees, whilst ensuring all health & safety measures.

On the first day, sunbathing on the deck of a ship that slid along the calm Danube from Belgrade to Tekija, we saw the Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan, and the lighthouses of Pancevo at the mouth of the Tamis. Then we slowly came to Smederevo, passed by our Smederevo office and the fortress, then onto the Ram fortress where the river Danube is at its widest in Serbia.

Very few of us had ever had the opportunity to see these buildings from this perspective, and everyone’s impression was the same: everything looks so different and more impressive from the water than from land!

Sailing towards the Golubac Fortress, we arrived at Djerdap National Park, known as the “Iron Gate”, and entered the longest and deepest gorge in Europe.

For a while, everything was so beautiful, calm and relaxing that some of us even fell asleep on the deck chairs in the sun.

We continued our voyage near Donji Milanovac, then entered the “Big and Small Kazan”, passed the statue of the last Dacian king, Decebalus. We then came to the place where the Roman emperor Trajan left his indelible mark on the rock, known as Trajan’s board. Well, no one was asleep anymore and everyone’s phones’ cameras just started “clicking”… because this image can only be seen from the water.

We arrived in Tekija after 9.5 hours of sailing, settled into our hotel in Kladovo and after refreshments and a little recreation, we explored this interesting city by the Danube on Serbia-Romania border.

The next day, accompanied by an excellent guide, our first stop was to visit the extremely rich Archaeological Museum of Djerdap. Next, we visited the archaeological site Diana, visited HPP Djerdap, and then rested at the lookout of Captain Misha’s Breg. Lastly, we visited one of the oldest urban settlements in Europe and the world, Lepenski Vir and returned home in the evening, refreshed and in a good mood.

The impressions received from the trip were more than positive, and our smiling faces were the best indication of the overall atmosphere.

We look forward to organizing a similar trip soon!
