VOJVODINA TRIP

If you haven’t been to the Petrovardin’s Military Galleries, we suggest you do so. We had the opportunity to visit it in the first of several stages of our wide-ranging trip.

The use of a guide is essential because without it, we would not have known the historical background, the purpose of the tunnels or the way they were built. At that time it was a substantial engineering undertaking that took considerated a number of variables. Plans also foresaw any possible attack from the enemy, how to survive underground … and the most import thing was that they succeeded with their primary intention. The fortress was never conquered!

We didn’t have the best photography equipment and so we couldn’t capture the atmosphere completely, but as always, the best thing to do, is to go and see it with your own eyes.

Considering that none of us had been to
Sombor before, a place described in many well known songs, we chose this wonderful town as the main destination for our tour. We started by heading to the “Milan Konjović” gallery, where we were shown through this institution  by the excellent guide.

We followed this outing with a stroll through the town full of history, art and wonderful stories from the past.  Of course, there was again a local guide, in love with this city who managed to charm us all with the beauty of Sombor.

The next day we toured Bački Monoštor.
We visited a few spots to see and feel the history of the area, experience the wonderful nature, and sample some local honey product. Finally, we went
by boat the Large Bačka canal, which seemed completely unreal in its silence, with birds flying above us and white and yellow water lilies spread out along the canal’s edges. The trip, which lasted almost 2 hours, passed quickly with our captain’s wonderful storytelling. Of course, when we reached the canal bank, we had to taste the famous fish stew in charda

The last stage of our excursion was to Fruška gora, with a walk or a quad bike ride, depending on each person’s preference.

Including the great time spent together, we managed a bit of history, sightseeing, relaxation, art,  sporting activities and of course
, the local cuisine. There was definetly something for each of us and most important, good fun for all!
